How to install Tarball(.tar.gz) files in Linux using terminal

1.Open the terminal by clicking menu–>terminal

2.Use the cd command and navigate to the location where the file is saved.. For example, i have saved the file in Downloads folder..

cd /home/Downloads

3. Use ls command to view all the files and check whether *.tar.gz file exists in that list

4. Now, extract the .tar.gz file by the following command

tar zxf filename.tar.gz

5. Use cd command to change to the corresponding directory

6. Now, we have to compile the files. It can be done by three commands..

./configure
make
make install

7. Thats it you have finished installation..
