Yesterday did a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04 LTS in my dell Laptop. As usual, got into a big trouble .

Previously, when i installed linux mint i got the same issue .. Wifi was not getting connected properly .

This time it was more than that. There was no sign of the word “wireless” over there. But i could recognize that it is because of some driver issue .

Then i tried googling it up and came to know that the issue is quite common and i need to install Broadcom Wireless STA Driver. Then i went to Additional Drivers option and tried to install it .. Again a bad luck . There was some error saying check ‘/var/logs/jockey.log’ . Being a beginner i was not able to crack the issue .

At last , these three commands helped me out ..

sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree
sudo modprobe -r b43 && sudo modprobe b43

Issue got resolved . But , even for doing this we need internet. Thats the worst part. Thank god i had wired internet with me .
